Trip to Portland

We flew to Portland, OR for a week to see our family and some old friends and had a wonderful time. One day, we drove with the girls through the Columbia River Gorge to see the beautiful waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls. We stayed with Aunt Dottie and Uncle Jim while were were there. They have a beautiful house on top of a mountain in Camas, WA that overlooks the snowcapped Mount Hood. All of the Heflin cousins were there over the weekend, and we had fun celebrating Thomas' first birthday. (Thomas is my cousin Holly's son.) Aunt Dottie invited Rojo the llama to the party. It was raining, so Rojo actually came inside! It was so much fun, and we laughed so hard when Rojo jumped a flight of stairs right before it was time to leave.
Thomas the "birthday boy."
Kate and Maggie got to see a lot of their cousin Wade (my sister Katherine's son) who is exactly a year and one day older than the girls. We miss getting to see my sister's family since they live on the West coast, so it was nice to spend so much time with them. Catherine (Holly's daughter) really enjoyed being with Kate. When we told Catherine that Kate was also a Katherine, she was really excited and called her "Katherine" the whole weekend. We gathered for dinner over at Katherine and Matt's house. They have the perfect backyard for parties, complete with a big yellow slide for Wade and the other cousins to slide down. On Sunday, we were able to spend time with Ross and Rachael, our friends who moved to Portland almost a year ago. They showed us around downtown Portland and loved getting to meet Kate and Maggie for the first time.
Our fantastic little travelers.
